Hey kids. Here’s what local bands have been saying for themselves/doing/releasing over the last day.

If you missed the Showcase the other day, well shame on you, but also you don’t have to feel entirely left out. #FrontRoomUnplugged have a wee bit of Little Mill of Happiness for you right here. Now you know what you missed and won’t repeat the mistake.

Speaking of things and missing them. As I said yesterday I failed to catch The Cleavers when they played the Ironworks on Wednesday. Some kind sole recorded the whole set up in Wick though. So here it is for your enjoyment. Sound is a bit on the dodgy side, they are a loud bunch of boys, so pretend it’s MW radio or summit. Btw if you were at the Elgin show this week and are down a pair of glasses someone put them in Dave’s bag so give them a shout to get them back. Also, they have some new posters going in their merch store.

KOBI, who you also either saw or missed at the Showcase, have been up at Bogbain Farm to do some recording (it’s a studio now dontcha know). For what, I don’t know but can’t wait to find out.

Speaking of recording (I should stop starting paragraphs with “speaking of” but it makes things look planned) Lewis Hamilton (of And The Boogie Brothers fame) has set up a new page for Lewis Hamilton Music which is his indie label. The page says that they’re currently working on a blues compilation album with the best of Scottish blues. I can think of a few people I hope are on there.

You may have noticed by now I have quite a broad taste in music, which is handy if your doing a music page really.

And there’s another new page, this one a website not a Facebook though they HAVE a FB obviously, on the go. Inverness Gigs have been a bit quiet lately but they’re back now with some new artwork courtesy of Sodium3. They post news and reviews and the like, like this preview for Daft Funk in Dingwall.

If you are so inclined, and I am as I love a bit of Daft Punk, you can win tickets to that gig courtesy of Musique Dingwall. Just find the Daft Funk post (most recent as I’m writing) like it and share it. Like wot I did.

Sienna Lights will be getting a bit of air play on Jim Gellatly’s show on Amazing Radio this Sunday. The show is on between 2 and 4pm at this here web page and it’ll be your chance to hear a bit of the EP before it’s officially out next month (though some have been available at festivals and that. I’m getting mine on Thursday at the next showcase and there’s a few others up for grabs. Preview piece coming, EP review closer to launch).

Donald Macdonald and The Islands have uploaded an accoustic performance of their new song Ryan (or Heart Ryan Can’t Fix possibly). It’s really very good.

And that’ll do it. Please like this sites new Facebook page, then share it about and invite your friends so they don’t miss out 🙂

Hey kids. Here’s what local bands have been saying for themselves/doing/releasing over the couple of days.

You only have a couple of days to enter Scooty and the Skyhooks competition to win two tickets to their show with Jools Holland on the 26th. Head over to their page, like it, scroll down a bit, share the thing it says to share, easy as pie.

Tomorrow night, that’s Wednesday, there’s a free gig in the Ironworks featuring Cleavers, Purple Divide, and Cactus and Cardigan. Your ears will be blasted and heads will bang. FREE FOR NOTHIN! And if you are a musician turn up at 5 as there’s a discussion on DIY music (without a label, not with hammers and that. Actually, possibly also with hammers and that with this lot).

While I’m on the subject of metal, one man… I have to do this properly as he likes the description. Mr Boom’s satanic love child, one man metal behemoth Desecrator stepped in for a set at Bella and the very tail end of that set is here on video. He is also looking to put on another Death Metal Tea Party kind of thing at The Greenhouse at Halloween so if you’re a metal band give him a shout. Last one was apparently a blast. AND he’s looking for a couple of extra shows for a mini tour he’s doing in September. Not sure on the area it’ll cover but if you host music and are up for being desecrated give him a shout.

He Slept on 57 have put the last of their merch bundles on sale. I assume there’s still some going. I’m skint so none for me, but you get a Ferris Wheel t-shirt, Childsmile single, A Glow From The Night Light EP, Turn Your Back On All We Know EP and a handful of badges and stickers for a tenner. That’s a hell of a deal. UPDATE: Only small and XL left. T-shirts obviously, the rest of the stuff is the same size.

Frontroom Unplugged aka Duncan Mckenzie has his Belladrum Round Up out. Sounds like he had a great time like everybody else, and a lot of love for the locals there.

Bogbain Farm are looking for staff. Bit of a weird post for this “column” it’s true, but I love the place and we all gotta work. Much worse places to earn your pay check. They’re also selling tickets now for Hogmanay. It’s sold out the last few years which is why I’m giving you a heads up. I have no idea what I’m doing for hogmanay but the Whisky River Band are playing there so it’s damned tempting. I’d essentially be homeless after, and while I could probably convince Yvonne and Bruce to let me camp in a nearby field I doubt that would be a good idea on January 1st…

And that’s it for this time. You can subscribe to this here blog below, the last couple of articles are also linked so have a look around, thanks very much for reading 😀
